opening night

I have just found that I was too busy shooting film footage to take a photo of the great crowd of people gathered, holding their wine tightly so it didn’t get snatched away by the blustery wind.

Thankyou to The Pyrenes Shire Mayor, John Quinn who opened our fence installation and his fabulous wife who accompanies him and supports the community. We appreciated your presence. Thankyou to Jan who arrived with fairy lights and always with food etc. Thankyou to Noreen who put up the above explanation on the fence and was tying balloons to the sign etc. Thankyou to the Moonambel Arts and History Group for organising the workshops, advertising, media releases and photographs, the hot drinks, the food and then even the Fire Station in which to continue the opening festivities. And those other nameless people who run around doing things to help the smooth and pleasant progress of things.

I thought it was an amazing project because of the community involvement.

One of my friends came to me and said that reading the poems gave her a lump in the throat, as in a heart rendering movement through the body. We made art that moved people, and that’s a real accomplishment.

The secret Men’s Business Exhibition at the pavillion was also a stunner. Amazing! I really enjoyed it.

Thanks for the collaboration,

I look forward to next time

cheers Debbie

Ceramic workshop making letters for poems

Below is a slideshow of the poems that were made out of ceramic letters today in our workshop. The theme for the Poetry is “Mens Business” which will be the theme of this year’s Easter Art Show at Moonambel.

We met at the Moonambel Recreation Reserve Pavillion at ten.

Debbie showed how to make the letters out of clay.

People shared some of the poems that they had written and began to make their letters.

More people arrived and more tables were brought out.

More people arrived and everyone shifted into the bigger room.

It took till 3.30pm for everyone to make their poems ( still one is unfinished)

Thankyou to Eve Lamb who came from the Pyrenes Weekly to take our photos and tell our stories.

Thankyou to the seventeen people who made poetry and letters for this project.

and the Moonambel Art and history Group for running with the idea and organising the day.

some of the quotes from today’s workshop, diligently recorded by Kay are:

A poor tradesman blames his tools

There’s no flies on him!

Are you awake?

My mind is a blank sheet.

We can share Mate!

Here’s looking at you babe!

Grumpy old men.

the project begins

This project is about making short poems out of ceramic lettering and then assembling them in public places, such as fences. The Moonambel Art and History Group are working with artist Debbie Harman to run a workshop for the people of moonambel, to make the letters for their poems and then to create the installation of poetry as part of their regular Easter Exhibition.

This thursday we are having our workshop to make the ceramic letters for the poems. If you make something at the workshop it will be documented on this blog.

stay tuned for the photos of the workshop and the when and where of the exhibition.
